If you are looking for a good place to surf, look no further than Lombok. Located just 35 kilometres east of Bali, this majestic island in Indonesia is an unsung hotspot for surfing. With consistent swell and warm waters throughout the year, it’s no wonder that Lombok attracts surfers from all over the world to its pristine shores. Whether you are an amateur surfer or have been riding waves for years, Lombok has many surf spots varying in difficulty.
Known for its long, barreling waves, Desert Point is a paradise for experienced surfers. However, the sharp reef and strong currents make it challenging. We suggest that you bring reef booties and a backup board. This spot is best surfed from May to September.
This is a great spot for those who are starting out or just want a relaxed session. The waves here are gentle, making it a perfect location to brush up on your skills before graduating to the more challenging spots along the coast.
This spot has five different breaks, making it a haven for surfers of all levels. Beginners will prefer the inside break, while the veteran surfers will probably prefer the outside break. Please note that you can only reach this spot by boat so arrange transport in advance with local operators.
Found on the southern coast of Lombok, Mawi offers a reef break with lefts and rights. As the waves are quite powerful here, ranging from 3 to 8 feet in height, this spot is better suited for intermediate to advanced surfers. Most people prefer to surf this spot from May to October when the offshore winds are consistent.
Best surfed in the dry season, Ekas Bay offers two main reef breaks. The inside break is perfect for beginners, while the outside break is better suited for experienced surfers who fancy more challenging waves. To easily access this spot, we recommend that you stay at one of the surf camps nearby.
