Ortona Guide

Ortona Ferry Port

Ortona is a coastal town on the east coast of Italy, situated in the province of Chieti, laying in the Abruzzo region. The only ferry routes departing the port are to other holiday destinations residing near the Italian coastline.

What is there to do in Ortona?

One of Italy’s lesser known coastal resorts, Ortona’s lack of popularity doesn’t detract from its appeal. The Mediterranean climate lends itself to lazing on the glorious beaches for hours at a time; the Spiaggia Lido Riccio is the most highly regarded beach - with bars dotted around the shoreline and the warm temperature of the Adriatic Sea - it often proves a very alluring prospect. For a more relaxed experience on the shores of Italy, Punta dell Acquabella is usually relatively secluded and offers the chance to swim interrupted in the azure blue waters. Despite its idyllic shoreline, there is more to Ortona than the golden sands and warm seas; the quaint streets are lined with unique, colourful buildings and lead to the inviting landmarks. The Museo della Battaglia di Ortona and Palazzo Farnese are usually top of the itinerary for most visitors, and to continue the path of history and culture, head to Quartiere Medioevale di Terravecchia to embrace the stunning architecture.

How do visitors get around Ortona?

Due to close proximity of the beaches and notable landmarks, most tourists tend to travel around Ortona by foot. Alternatively, there are taxis readily available for quick and convenient transport.
