Ostend Guide

Ostend Ferry Port

Ostend is one of Belgium’s biggest and most widely visited ports, connecting passengers to Ramsgate in England. Many ferry routes leave the port each day, and before departure there are several facilities situated around the port for passengers to enjoy.

What is there to do in Ostend?

Not only one of the most culturally rich cities in Belgium, Ostend has the architecture and history to rival any city across Europe. The centre is overwhelmed with remarkable buildings, unique infrastructure and fascinating museums. The Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul is arguably the standout landmark, but for a constant stream of wonderful aesthetics take a stroll down the promenade to find a myriad of restaurants, shops and bars. Unlike many other cities heavy in culture, Ostend has the glorious beaches and vibrant coastal atmosphere to tempt tourists into staying for an extra day or two. The long stretch of sand is engulfed by beach volleyball players, sunbathers and those obliging in the compulsory stint of basking in the beautiful North Sea. Depending on what time of year you visit, you may be lucky enough to stumble upon one of the annual festivals: Theatre by the Sea, Magic Lights in the Park and the huge ice skating ramp at the Christmas Market are particular highlights.

How do visitors get around Ostend?

Ostend is small enough to be covered entirely by foot, though some visitors choose to rent a bicycle for quicker and more transport.
