Rhodes Guide

The Greek island of Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands and lies in the eastern Aegean Sea, to the north east of the island of Crete and south east of Athens. The island is also a short distance off the coast of Turkey. Rhodes Town is the island's capital and main town and its Old Town is a rich tapestry made up of different civilisations and cultures. The city's medieval walls, its fortress like buildings, the gates, bastions, narrow alleys, old houses, fountains and busy squares combine to make all visitors feel as though they have stepped back thousands of years. Outside of Rhodes Town the island has a number of small villages and beach resorts that are popular with tourists. The main ones are Faliraki, Lindos, Kremasti, Pefkos, Archangelos, Haraki, Koskinou, Afantou, Paradisi, Trianta and Embona.

From the island's port, ferry services depart to Piraeus by both conventional and high speed ferry. The island is also connected to the rest of the Dodecanese Islands, the Cyclades Islands and to Crete during the summer months.

Marmaris Guide

Located on the Mediterranean Sea coast in the west of Turkey is the resort of Marmaris and is a popular holiday destination for the British. The town is home to one of Turkey's largest marinas and has a harbour, a lovely waterfront and coastline and a charming Old Town that is just waiting to be explored. Popular attractions in the town include the 16th century Marmaris Castle which is probably the most famous site in the town. Also in the Old Town, where many of the historic sites are located, are many old buildings that have since been converted in shops, cafes and restaurants.

A visit to the nearby Iyilik Kayaliklari Archaeological Park is a must for any visitor that is interested in the history of Mugla Province as remains that date back to the 4th century BC have been unearthed. In contrast, for a more active way to pass the time visitors should head over to the Marmaris National Park where there are walking trails, mountain biking trails and a number of rock climbing opportunities to be enjoyed.

From the town's port ferries and high-speed hydrofoils depart several times a day to the Greek island of Rhodes.
